Ramona is an equestrian focused community with access to a wide variety of recreational opportunities. Trails, organized rides, lessons, training, and other horse related activities abound. Hiking and biking trails crisscross the community and nearby mountains. Barona Casino is located 10 minutes away, with live gambling action, a four star hotel and a public golf course rated in the top 10 in all of California. Lake Cuyamaca, Lake Henshaw, and Lake Sutherland offer outstanding fishing. Lake Cuyamaca has camping as well.

Horseracing at Del Mar Racetrack runs from July to September. The Buick Challenge Golf Tournament is held annually at Torrey Pines Golf Course. Shopping ranges from the ethnic to the eclectic. There are a number of malls including Fashion Valley, Westfield Shopping Town, Horton Plaza, and University Towne Center. Seaport Village is a quaint shopping area with unique stores, restaurants, and entertainment. The Embarcadero and Bazaar del Mundo offer specialty items from south of the border. North of Ramona, in Escondido, is the San Diego Wild Animal Park. Anza Borrego State Park is east of Ramona.
